"Biden approves the provision of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine."
US President Joe Biden has approved the supply of anti-personnel land mines to Ukraine, a US defense official told the BBC. The move is seen as an effort to slow Russian forces, who have been steadily advancing in eastern Ukraine in recent months.
The official, speaking anonymously, stated that the mines would be delivered soon and are expected to be used within Ukraine's territory. The official also noted that Ukraine has committed not to deploy the mines in densely populated areas.
Meanwhile, the US State Department announced the temporary closure of its embassy in Kyiv, citing credible information about a potential major air attack on November 20."
"The US embassy has advised American citizens to be prepared to immediately seek shelter if an air alert is issued.
Similar warnings were previously issued around New Year and Ukraine's Independence Day in August. Following the US warning, the Italian and Greek embassies also announced temporary closures.
Ukraine's defense intelligence accused Russia of spreading warnings about large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian cities as part of a 'massive information and psychological attack against Ukraine.' The agency urged Ukrainians to rely on official sources for information and to heed air raid alerts.
Meanwhile, overnight, both Ukraine and Russia reported significant drone attacks on their territories. It remains unclear if there were any casualties."
